Saints up to third!
After that 4-3 win, Saints move up to 3rd place in the Premier League table! Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl has done some job to mastermind a five game unbeaten run after Saints slow start to the season!
Danny Ings comes off injured
The only worry from today's game is that Danny Ings came off with five minutes left after injuring himself by getting his foot stuck in the ground. Let's hope he is okay,..
😇 Full-Time: Villa 3-4 Saints 😇
That didn't end the way Saints would have wanted but it was a Sunday lunch with all the trimmings! Three second half goals from Villa mean Saints don't run out comfortable winners.
A fine finish
Grealish shoots low and hard and wrong foots McCarthy to make it 4-3....
GOAL
Jack Grealish (+6’) | 3 – 4

Grealish is on his own...
The Captain gets free on the right side of the Saints defence, cuts in but is unable to trouble McCarthy in what might be the last chance for Villa to really put the scares into Saints...
Watkins pulls another one back
Watkins sends McCarthy the wrong way as Villa reduce the deficit to two.
GOAL
Ollie Watkins (+1’) | 2 – 4

It's a penalty to Villa!
A yellow card goes up for Ibrahima Diallo as he tries to stop Jack Grealish but misses the ball and takes down the Villa Captain.
Six added minutes
Saints have six more minutes to play here at Villa Park...
Saints staying tight at Villa Park
It's been a tough half for Saints who have had to defend well to keep the chances to a premium for Aston Villa.
McCarthy pushes it over
Tyrone Mings gets on the end of the corner but McCarthy pushes it over although it looked to be heading safely over the bar anyway...
😍
Lots of love for this picture as Danny Ings gave Saints a 4-0 lead...
McCarthy denies Trézéguet again!
It's been a strong second half from the Saints number one who keeps getting the better of substitute Trézéguet as he keeps it out once again. The shot comes in from the 6 yard box, down into the ground and McCarthy times his jump well to push it over the bar.
Ingsy scores! But it's offside.
These chances will start coming now for Saints. It's a great finish from Danny Ings as he chips it over the on-rushing Martinez but he is easily offside.
McCarthy keeps Villa out again
Trézéguet gets on the end of a hanging cross from Targett but his effort is straight at McCarthy. Villa playing high up the pitch looking for that second goal to give them a glimpse of getting back into this one.
Villa playing on the front foot
Saints are having to defend well here as Villa pile on the pressure. They haven't created any clear chances but they are moving it around at pace, looking for that second goal.
Villa get one back
Jack Grealish is the provider as his little dink cross finds Tyrone Mings who gets in front of Vestergaard to direct a simple header past McCarthy.
GOAL
Tyrone Mings (61’) | 1 – 4

INGSY IN THE GOALS!
IT'S FOUR FOR SAINTS! Picking the best goal from this game is going to be hard! Ings gets the ball from Stuart Armstrong and he curls one from the edge of the area over the keeper, clips the underside of the bar and into the top corner.
GOOOAL!!!
Danny Ings (57’) | 0 – 4
Close from Armstrong!
Ché Adams plays in Stuart Armstrong who under pressure quickly gets a shot away. He looks for curl but it's not enough as it bends wide of the Villa goal. First chance of the half for Saints.
Key saves from McCarthy
How crucial could those two saves be to ensure Villa don't get back in this game early in the second half?
Two saves from McCarthy!
Grealish delivers the cross in and Trézéguet at the back post meets it with his head but McCarthy pushes it away!
Moments later, it's Grealish on the end of the cross as he heads down and our Number One pushes it away again to safety.
Scrappy start
Both side passing at pace, Villa obviously wanting to push to get an early goal but neither able to put their stamp on this half yet.
A happy man...
Wonder what Ralph Hasenhüttl said at half time? Definitely will be hoping for more of the same to extend this unbeaten run to five.
Second half underway!
It's now all about leaving Villa Park with the three points as Saints find themselves in a commanding position! 45 minutes to go for Saints to hold on and go third in the Premier League table! Unless we can get another two goals which means we'd leapfrog Everton into second on goal difference!
Half-Time: Villa 0-3 Saints
My word what a half from Saints. This team is flying at the moment and long may it continue. Vestergaard headed us ahead but the story is all about James Ward-Prowse.
HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!
This is ridiculous. Put a ball down anywhere near the goal and Ward-Prowse will score from the dead ball! It's closer to goal, harder to get up and down but he does. Matt Cash tried his best to stop Saints making it three but it didn't work.
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (44’) | 0 – 3
Yellow Card for Matthew Cash (Aston Villa)
It's a handball from the defender and is lucky to be just outside the area. The cross comes in and if he misses, Walcott is in and free to score. He handles it and sets up Ward-Prowse for another free kick in a similar position...
That moment.
it's at this moment that you knew Saints were about to go 2-0 up thanks to James Ward-Prowse...
Five minutes to go
Saints will be wanting to keep Villa at bay in this final few minutes as goals before half-time have made a big difference in the second half in both a positive and negative way this season.
JUST INCREDIBLE!
It's almost laughable at how good Prowsey is from a dead-ball situation! He lifts it with ease over the wall and Martinez in the Villa goal is doing nothing about that!
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (32’) | 0 – 2
Walcott wins free-kick
It's in a great position. Walcott pushes centrally towards goal and he is brought down by Douglas Luiz as he rushes onto the edge of the area. Ward-Prowse territory for sure...
Chance for Traore!
A free-kick routine is worked and pulled back to Bertrand Traore who shoots low but it goes wide of Alex McCarthy in the Saints goal.
What a season so far for Vestergaard!
A second goal in three games for the Big Dane has put Saints ahead here at Villa Park! The defender has really been key to Saints season turning around from that slow early start.
THE BIG DANE DOES IT AGAIN!!!
NO VAR NEEDED THIS TIME. That free-kick from Ward-Prowse finds Vestergaard who attacks with power and heads it in like a bullet to put Saints ahead! What an emphatic goal.
GOOOAL!!!
Jannik Vestergaard (19’) | 0 – 1
Saints free-kick
James Ward-Prowse plays in Kyle Walker-Peters on the overlap and as he crosses, the right back is brought to ground to win a free-kick near the linesman.
Neither side taking control
Both teams here are struggling to keep possession for an extended period with the ball changing sides in midfield. Saints currently have a throw-in keep into Aston Villa territory...
Yellow Card for James Ward-Prowse (Southampton)
Villa win a free-kick in a good position, on the left hand side of the area, about 25 yards out but Barkley's effort hits the wall and goes out for a corner.
Good work by Villa
Matt Targett and Jack Grealish work well together and the latter goes for a shot but it's deflected out for a corner. Grealish delivers the corner but it's cleared safely.
Promising start from Saints!
Saints thought they had made the perfect start here at Villa Park as Konsa scored an own goal from a corner. Ché Adams elbow though was deemed to be offside by the VAR.
VAR Decision: Goal not awarded for Southampton [Ché Adams] was cancelled
It's offside by the smallest of margins. Those VAR lines are back out and Ché Adams elbow is just offside...so close but that's the decision.
OWN GOAL!
Ezri Konsa Ngoyo (3’) | 0 – 1
Saints with possession
The away side are keeping hold of the ball well and eventually work an opening as Danny Ings gets in behind but his cross is blocked by Tyrone Mings for a corner.
We're underway!
