FULL TIME: Southampton 1-1 Manchester United
It's a hard-earned point for ten-man Saints, who dug deep to take something from the game after Kevin Danso's second-half dismissal on his home debut. Jannik Vestergaard headed the hosts level, having fallen behind to Daniel James's rocket of a shot early in the first half. Great effort, Saints! 👏
Yellow Card for Stuart Armstrong (Southampton)
The Scotsman picks up a booking for a late challenge.
More time in this one yet...
That injury stoppage will ensure we go beyond the four added minutes now. And breathe.
Yellow Card for Ashley Young (Manchester United)
It's a booking for the United skipper, who complains about Cédric staying down to receive treatment.
4️⃣ added minutes...
Hang in there, Saints!
Young goes close
Saints are really hanging on now. Young is inches away with a curling shot towards the top corner beyond the reach of Gunn.
Gunn denies Greenwood
Lingard's fellow substitute Greenwood tries his luck, sending a curling shot towards the far corner, but Gunn gets across to make a vital save.
Lingard shoots wide
Lingard picks up a similar position, shooting from the edge of the box, but this time it's just wide of the far post.
Bednarek blocks Lingard's shot
The substitute shakes off England colleague Ward-Prowse and shoots, but Bednarek throws himself in the way to preserve parity.
Gunn keeps James at bay
Already United are back in the ascendancy. James hits another powerful shot that Gunn parries to safety, before slicing an attempted volley as the ball is crossed back in.
Red Card for Kevin Danso (Southampton)
That's Danso's second yellow card, for a rash lunge on McTominay, and Saints are down to ten. That could change the whole complexion of this game.
Højbjerg tries his luck
There's no escape for United at the moment. Saints are in their faces at every opportunity. Romeu slides in to win the ball, which runs kindly for Højbjerg to have a go from distance. It sails wide, but is another sign of Saints' new-found confidence.
Saints pressing hard now!
The dancing feet of Boufal work a crossing position from which he delivers an inviting ball that requires some last-ditch defending from Young, who takes a clattering from Ings for his troubles. Can Saints take advantage of this swing in momentum?
THE BIG MAN!!!
Saints are level! Saints force a corner, from which De Gea denies Ings with a fine save, but Danso keeps the ball alive and chips up a cross begging to be attacked by Vestergaard, who thunders a header into the net. It's all square at St Mary's!
GOOOAL!!!
Jannik Vestergaard (57’) | 1 – 1
Great chance for Adams! 😩
Saints' best move of the game. Ward-Prowse combines with Boufal, who cleverly dinks the ball through for Adams. The ball is bouncing away from goal but seems to sit up nicely for the striker, who snatches at the chance and can't hit the target. Much better from Saints! 💪
Surging run from Danso
The left-back, a central defender by trade, embarks on a lung-busting run all the way into the United box, but across comes Lindelöf to halt him in his tracks.
Vestergaard thwarts Rashford
Excellent defending by the big man, who races across to the touchline and slides the ball out of play just ahead of the attacker, who had plenty of space to run into had he got there first,
We're up and running again!
The second half is under way - come on Saints!
HALF TIME: Southampton 0-1 Manchester United
It's the visitors who lead at the interval, courtesy of a stunning tenth-minute strike from Daniel James. Saints are right in this game, though, and showed signs of putting United under pressure early and late in the half.
2️⃣ added minutes...
It's been an encouraging end to the first half for Saints, who are on the front foot as we enter stoppage time.
Sloppy from Rashford
United have the chance to break with the explosive pace of James and Rashford, but the latter passes the ball straight out of play, much to the amusement of the majority inside St Mary's.
Adams goes down...
It's not in a harmful area of the pitch, but Adams goes to ground as he takes on Maguire and the defender is convinced it's a dive. No card for the striker, but he looks a little sheepish as he gets to his feet.
Boufal denied by a fine block
This is better from Saints. Ings finds space down the right and picks out Boufal on the far side of the box. He has time to take the ball down, step inside and let fly, but McTominay gets in the way of a well-struck shot.
Wide from Ings
Optimistic, shall we say, from Saints' number nine. He cushions Højbjerg's airborne pass, swivels and hits the ball on the volley from 30 yards, but doesn't fully get hold of it and the ball runs harmlessly wide.
De Gea called into action
Good build-up play from Saints, as Højbjerg feeds Ward-Prowse on the right. His first-time cross takes a slight deflection, and De Gea steps in to diffuse the danger.
Rashford gets in behind Saints
The England striker does well to stay onside and races away, before driving in a low cross that's cleared behind for a corner. Rashford himself then heads wide, but the flag is up regardless.
Højbjerg goes down
There's a collision between Højbjerg and Young on the touchline, leaving the Saints skipper in some discomfort. Young offers to help him back to his feet - rejected by the Dane. He's not happy.
James tries again...
United really have their tails up now, roared on by their travelling fans. James is particularly confident and has another go from the edge of the box, this time parried to safety by Gunn.
Wan-Bissaka goes close
That could've been 2-0. McTominay delivers a cross to the far post, where Wan-Bissaka arrives late but connects sweetly on the stretch with a volley that flies narrowly over.
James has another go...
Not such a clean strike this time, but still forces Gunn into a decent stop down to his left.
James fires United in front
That's a brilliant finish by the winger. Cutting inside from the left, the Welshman rifles an unstoppable shot into the top corner.
GOAL
Daniel James (10’) | 0 – 1

Vestergaard blocks Pereira's shot
This time it's United who win back possession, as Mata slides the ball to his right for Pereira, but Danso and Vestergaard converge on the midfielder and his shot is blocked by the Dane.
Boufal goes close!
First involvement for Boufal, who picks up possession 25 yards from goal and tries his luck with a skidding shot just past De Gea's right-hand post.
Frantic stuff at St Mary's!
This is a great watch so far - both teams are playing quickly, and Saints' forwards are really putting United under pressure in attempting to win the ball back high up the pitch.
We're under way!
