17.16full time: southampton 3-1 wolves
it's another huge win at st mary's, and ralph hasenhüttl's side are now eight points clear of the relegation zone with five games left to play!
four minutes of added time...
we're almost there!
bednarek close to forcing the ball in
a corner drops in the six-yard box, and jan bednarek is close to turning it in, only for wolves keeper rui patrício to dive on the ball at his feet.
yoshida denied at close range
so nearly four for saints! a corner drops to oriol romeu at the back post, and he sends a shot across the face of goal, which maya yoshida diverts from six yards out, but rui patrício somehow saves it!
YES! BACK-TO-BACK GAMES FOR LONGY!
maya yoshida tries an audacious overhead kick from a corner which is blocked, but the ball falls back to him and he prods it goalwards. standing in the right spot at the right time is long, who diverts the ball past rui patrício and gives saints a cushion!
GOOOAL!!!
Shane Long (70’) | 3 – 1
jiménez gifted an opportunity
an errant header from maya yoshida gives the ball to raúl jiménez in space ten yards out, but he gets his volley all wrong and pulls it way wide of the post. a big let-off for saints!
a half of few chances so far
in stark contrast to what was an enthralling first half, it has been very quiet in terms of goalmouth action here in the second 45 minutes so far.
Yellow Card for Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)
the saints full-back goes into the book, after catching rúben neves with his arm during an aerial challenge.
doherty shot blocked
matt doherty sends in a strike from the edge of the box after a corner falls to him, but saints manage to block and scramble it away.
jota has chance to level the scores
wolves work the ball to diogo jota in the area, who in turn works it into some space himself, but he fires his left-footed shot over the bar.
second half under way
referee jonathan moss gets things started again!
HALF TIME: Southampton 2-1 wolves
you'll do well to see another first half as entertaining as that in the premier league this season. a back-and-forth game so far, and it's saints who have the advantage at the interval, thanks to nathan redmond's two strikes.
Yellow Card for Raúl Jiménez (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
jiménez catches pierre-emile højbjerg late and he's the second wolves player into referee jonathan moss's book.
two minutes of added time
we're into additional minutes at the end of the first half now.
Yellow Card for João Filipe Iria Santos Moutinho (Wolverhampton Wanderers)
no doubt about this. moutinho trips nathan redmond as he runs away from him in midfield, and it's a yellow card for the wolves player.
he's on fire 🔥🔥
what a half it's been from nathan redmond, who has both of southampton's goals.
neves shoots just wide
you don't want to give him many of these opportunities... rúben neves chests and volleys a loose ball 25 yards out, sending it just wide of the post, although angus gunn looked like he had it covered.
sims misses glorious chance
another defence-splitting pass from danny ings plays josh sims through on goal. he opens his body up and attempts to plant the ball into the far corner, but he gets his shot wrong and pushes it wide instead. a big opportunity!
sims goes close to a third...
josh sims finds a bit of room outside the box and sends in a low, angled shot that creeps just wide of the far post.
what a game! redmond again!
no sooner are saints pegged back than they regain the lead. josh sims plays the ball in-field to danny ings, who slips nathan redmond in, and he dinks the ball over rui patrício for his, and southampton's, second goal of the game.
GOOOAL!!!
Nathan Redmond (29’) | 2 – 1
boly heads wolves level
it's been coming. joao moutinho sends in an out-swinging corner, and willy boly produces a stunning header that loops into the top corner, giving angus gunn no chance.
GOAL
Willy Boly (27’) | 1 – 1

play pauses while redmond is treated
there's a break in the action here, as nathan redmond receives some attention from the medical staff inside his own half. he's back on the pitch now, though.
gunn saves from jiménez
saints continuing to come under pressure here, as raúl jiménez works room for a shot on the edge of the area, but angus gunn gets down well to his left to save and hold on.
saiss off target from distance
wolves looking a bit better now, and they produce another effort, this time from romain saiss, who strikes a bouncing ball 25 yards out but sends it slicing a good couple of yards wide.
brilliant block from yoshida
big danger from wolves, as they win the ball in saints' half and diogo jota sprints into the area, but he's denied by a wonderful, sliding block from maya yoshida as he went to shoot with his left foot from a tight angle.
redmond tests patrício
Nathan redmond threatens again as he hits a first-time shot from 20 yards after receiving a pass from danny ings, but his effort is well held by wolves keeper rui patrício.
how has that not gone in? 😱
joao moutinho with an in-swinging free-kick from a position deep on the right, and leander dendoncker rises to meet it, with his header appearing destined for the top corner, only to pass just wide. phew!
redmond strikes! 🎯
that's goal number seven of the season for nathan redmond!
the perfect start for sims 👏👏👏
nathan redmond gets the credit for that goal, but the assist goes to josh sims on his first saints start of the season. a moment reminiscent of his first premier league start when he produced an assist inside the first minute here against everton in november 2016.
WHAT A START! 🔥
Brilliant from saints! Pierre-emile højbjerg sets josh sims free down the right, and he produces a perfect low delivery for nathan redmond, who finishes high into the net from close range.
GOOOAL!!!
Nathan Redmond (1’) | 1 – 0
