Key moments so far
- Stunning Ward-Prowse free-kick puts Saints in front
- Valery nets super Saints equaliser 13 minutes from time
- Sims and Long replace Austin and Romeu at half time
- Side-footed Kane finish gives Spurs the lead after 25 minutes
FULL-TIME: SAINTS 2-1 SPURS!!!!!!!!!
A SENSATIONAL WIN FOR SAINTS. DOWN AT HALF TIME, STUNNING SECOND HALF. VALERY, PROWSEY, AAAAAHHHHHHH!!!
❤️❤️❤️
An incredible second half from Saints and it WON'T be for nothing. FOUR minutes of added time to come.
Yellow Card for Moussa Sissoko (Tottenham Hotspur)
A cynical kick on the back of Nathan Redmond's legs earns Sissoko a very well-deserved booking.
WOW.
A stunning five minutes for Saints who LEAD against Spurs. First Valery then Ward-Prowse, it's Old Trafford all over again except this time we're in front!!!
GOOOAAALLL: SAINTS 2-1 SPURS!!! (WARD-PROWSE!!!)
WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT?????? WARD-PROWSE DOES IT AGAIN, A STUNNING FREE-KICK INTO THE TOP CORNER.
GOOOAL!!!
James Ward-Prowse (80’) | 2 – 1
Yellow Card for Kyle Walker-Peters (Tottenham Hotspur)
Spurs are RATTLED. Saints stream forward once more and Walker-Peters is forced to cynically pull down Armstrong on the edge of the box. Was that a last-man challenge? Hmm.
GOOOOALLLL: Spurs 1-1 Saints (VALERY!!)
YEEEEEESSSSSS, YANNNNNNNN! Sensational scenes as Valery sweeps home Armstrong's cut-back to equalise for Saints!
GOOOAL!!!
Yan Valery (76’) | 1 – 1
Pressure building for Saints!
Yan Valery arrives late into the box and his drilled cross spins to Bertrand at the back post who cannot control an unkind bounce with his head as it arrives to him unmarked. Different Saints entirely in this second half.
High and wide from Kane
You don't often see Harry Kane finish like that and the home fans are grateful for it as the England captain skies a shot into the stands from a very good position in the Saints box.
Super Sims
There's been a real shift in momentum since the restart and a lot of that credit is owed to Josh Sims, the youngster has hit the ground running in his first appearance of the season. Different game now.
Carnage in the box!
A chaotic passage of play in the Spurs box, let's break it down:
1) Jan Vertonghen kicks Josh Sims in the end as part of a clearance, screams for a penalty for the high boot
2) Play goes in and Yan Valery steals possession by the corner flag
3) He sets up Long to set up Redmond whose near-post shot is once more into the side-netting.
Højbjerg fires over!
The home crowd are on their feet for the first time this afternoon as strong work from Højbjerg fashions a chance from nothing, the Dane rushes Sanchez out of possession, skirts round the box and blasts a shot just over the bar. Belief building.
CHANCE! Redmond into the side-netting!
What an opening for Saints...Long finds Redmond lurking at the back post who can only slam his shot into the side-netting. Disappointing finish from a man who has delivered so much for us of late.
Fantastic save from Gunn!
A brilliant stop from Gunn stops Kane from doubling up at St Mary's, the striker's low shot is curling towards the far corner before Gunn claws it out for a corner. Superb.
Strong start to the half
Much better from Saints...Sims's slides a cut-back just behind Long before Redmond narrowly misses Bertrand's fiercely-struck cross at the near post.
Strong start to the half
Much better from Saints...Sims's slides a cut-back just behind Long before Redmond narrowly misses Bertrand's fiercely-struck cross at the near post.
CHANCE! Long denied by Sanchez!
The substitutes combine at once and almost draw Saints level: Sims gets free down the right and floats a cross onto the head of Shane Long who can only find the legs of the covering Sanchez.
Southampton substitution: Josh Sims replaces Charlie Austin
...and Josh Sims comes on for Charlie Austin, the winger's first Saints appearance of the season.
SECOND HALF: Come on, Saints!
Back underway at St Mary's where we have two half-time substitutions to bring you...
HALF TIME: Saints 0-1 Spurs
Saints have worked hard but Spurs have been the better side all over the field at St Mary's. One goal separates the sides so this one is far from over...
Kane heads wide unmarked
A chance for Spurs to double the lead from nowhere: Saints fall asleep at the back and allow Kane to head Alli's cross past the far post.
Searching for a way back in...
Saints haven't created an awful lot since falling behind, that Redmond run and shot aside. We're still in the game but Spurs look comfortable as we approach half time.
Bertrand beats Walker-Peters...no foul?
Groans of frustration around St Mary's as Bertrand taps the ball around Kyle Walker-Peters and is seemingly fouled by the young full-back. Nothing given and Spurs are back in possession.
YES, REDDERS!
Really positive stuff here from Nathan Redmond who bursts past three Spurs defenders, running from his own half, and flashes a shot over the bar from the edge of the box. COME ON, SAINTS!
GOAL: Saints 0-1 Spurs (Kane)
Moments after Saints put together their best move of the game to set up Charlie Austin, Spurs break to the other end and score as Kane sidefoots past Gunn at the back post.
GOAL
Harry Kane (25’) | 0 – 1

Eriksen off the bar!
That's post and bar in the last two minutes; Cristian Eriksen delicately clips the free-kick over the wall and onto the top of the Saints crossbar with Gunn beaten.
Yellow Card for Yan Valery (Southampton)
Spurs recover the ball in transition and Yan Valery is booked for blocking the progress of Danny Rose. Free-kick, very good position...
Saints survive! 🙃
Spurs inches from taking the lead as Maya Yoshida unwittingly plays a one-two with his own post attempting to defend Lucas's low cross from the right. The Japanese scrambles the ball clear...
Ralph watches on
He may not look it here, but there's more than enough to have kept the Austrian satisfied from the opening 20 minutes or so. His side are energetic, pressing high and looking nice and tight at the back...
Spurs strengthening...
The visitors are just beginning to up the ante now and have Saints temporarily stuck in their own half. Kane provides the latest threat, dispossessing Vestergaard and narrowly missing the jumpers at the back post with his cross.
SAAAAVE, ANGUS!
A first piece of action too for Angus Gunn who makes a save that ultimately didn't mean anything: Kane races on to Alli's pass and is denied by the 'keeper from an offside position.
Yellow Card for Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
The first card of the afternoon goes the way of Oriol Romeu as the Spaniard clumsily trips the countering Lucas on the halfway line,
Saints scrapping
A roar of approval from the home crowd as Jannik Vestergaard gets his body across Lucas Moura and draws a foul from the Brazilian near the sideline. All action start here at St Mary's!
Early sighter for Kane
An early warning for Saints of the danger posed by Harry Kane: a nothing ball forward bounces kindly for the England striker to half-volley just wide of Angus Gunn's near post.
SHOWTIME!
We're underway at a sold-out St Mary's with Saints kicking from right to left as we look! COYR!
Scene set at St Mary's!
Suits, ties, fans outside, it can only be matchday at St Mary's!
14.31Yan the man

Tactics football writer Sam Tighe has been telling us just how he has done that and what the highly impressive results have been right here.

SUBS: McCarthy, Stephens, Long, Armstrong, Targett, Sims, Slattery.
Bertrand: "United performance but with points"
Ryan Bertrand has been chatting to the media from the St Mary's tunnel ahead of kick-off. Here's what the Saints wing-back has had to say on today's game:
"We know what a result could do for us today and we've been in a good way. We were unfortunate last weekend but hopefully we can replicate the performance and get some points this time."
Away Form: ❓
Often so deadly on the road, Spurs' form has taken a slight downwards turn of late: Mauricio Pochettino's side have lost their last away games, the same number they had lost in their previous 13 (W11 D0 L2). They've only lost three times in a row once under the Argentine's guidance.
