18.23i think we played well enough in the first half but found ourselves 2-0 down due to lapses in our play... in the second half, we had a go, got back in the game and pushed for the goal that would have got us back on level terms.

Saints beaten despite Ings' first goal
Danny Ings marked his first Southampton start with a goal, but it was not enough to salvage a result from Goodison Park, which remains an unhappy hunting ground for Saints teams past and present.
FULL TIME: Everton 2-1 Southampton
It's all over at Goodison Park, where Everton have held on to the lead given to them by first-half goals from Theo Walcott and Richarlison. Danny Ings' second-half reply gave Saints hope, but no equaliser was forthcoming, and it's a winning start for Marco Silva in his first home match in charge.
Five added minutes to be played...
Can we carve out one last chance?
McCarthy denies Gueye
Everton's lead is precarious and the hosts are determined to kill the game, but McCarthy is well positioned to deny Gueye's shot from distance.
Ward-Prowse denied by Pickford
From a free-kick wide on the left, Ward-Prowse tries to catch out Pickford at his near post, but the keeper is alert and beats the ball out.
Ings takes a painful kick
Pickford rushes out and clears the ball just in front of Ings, but in doing so follows through on to the striker, whose shirt is ripped by the impact of the goalkeeper's studs. Thankfully, that's the extent of the damage.
Golden chance missed by Walcott
Great football by Everton, as Walcott plays a slick one-two with Sigurdsson, but with only McCarthy to beat, the former Saint drags his shot wide for a glaring miss.
Walcott goal ruled out
Walcott finds space in the box to dispatch a low cutback, but the goal is ruled out for offside in the build up.
Ings celebrates first Saints goal
Danny Ings wheels away in celebration after bringing Saints back into the game at Goodison Park. There's 25 minutes to go, and the game is back in the balance. Come on, Saints!
Richarlison goes down
Not for the first time, goalscorer Richarlison is down and receiving treatment, prompting an extended break in play.
Yellow Card for Jack Stephens (Southampton)
Stephens goes into the book for bringing down Tosun. That's five yellow cards - all to Saints players.
Lemina treading a tightrope
Already booked, Lemina is penalised for a foul in midfield. He needs to watch his step here, as referee Lee Mason has been very strict so far.

Ings halves the deficit!
The striker celebrates his first Saints start with his first Saints goal! Ward-Prowse's corner was flicked on by Lemina and tucked in by Ings from inside the six-yard box with a true poacher's finish.
GOOOAL!!!
Danny Ings (54’) | 2 – 1
Ings goes close!
A positive start to the second half for Saints, as Bertrand surges forward to the byeline and cuts the ball back for Ings, who finds himself in a great position but Keane gets in the way to make an important block.
The second half is under way
We're back into the action at Goodison Park, where neither side have made a half-time change. Saints need a big performance to get themselves back into this. Come on, lads!
HALF TIME: Everton 2-0 Southampton
It's been a tough start to life on the road for Saints. Set-pieces have caused problems at both ends, but it's Everton who have taken full advantage with two goals in the first period. Theo Walcott finished a well-worked free-kick routine, before his cross was headed in by Richarlison at the near post.
Yellow Card for Cédric (Southampton)
A fourth Saints booking - this time for Cédric with half time approaching.
Everton apply more pressure
Austin heads a Sigurdsson free-kick behind for a corner, which causes more problems in the Saints box but is eventually cleared. Mark Hughes will want to get his players in to regroup at half time.
Yellow Card for Oriol Romeu (Southampton)
A third yellow card of the first half for Saints, as Romeu goes in a little too strongly on Richarlison.
Ings goes close again
Ings has been lively on his first start, and goes close again after getting his head to a Ward-Prowse corner, but it's a couple of yards wide of the far post.
Richarlison makes it two
Within seconds of Richarlison recovering from that nasty fall, he meets Walcott's right-wing cross with a firm downward header at the near post to beat McCarthy.
GOAL
Richarlison de Andrade (30’) | 2 – 0

Saints penalty appeal turned down
Richarlison lands awkwardly in the Saints box. With the Brazilian still down, the visitors launch a quick-fire counter-attack as Ings feeds Austin, who goes down in attempting to round Pickford, but referee Lee Mason sees nothing wrong and Everton survive.
Pickford somehow keeps Ings at bay
So unlucky! Cédric's speculative shot is fumbled by Pickford and Ings is quick to react, but the keeper somehow recovers to divert the rebound against the crossbar. An incredible save to deny Saints an equaliser.
Ings shoots over
Ings makes a clever run in behind the Everton defence, but the angle tightens rapidly and he can't keep his effort on target.
Yellow Card for Mario Lemina (Southampton)
Already a second caution for Saints, as Lemina takes out Schneiderlin in midfield.
Tosun tests McCarthy
Everton striker Tosun lets fly from 25 yards, but his low shot along the ground is comfortably held by McCarthy.
Yellow Card for Wesley Hoedt (Southampton)
Hoedt goes into the book for going through the back of Tosun near the halfway line.
Walcott finishes a clever free-kick routine
Set-pieces have certainly caused the biggest threat, and Everton have profited from one to take the lead. Baines takes it short to Schneiderlin, whose first-time pass around the corner releases Walcott to score. Saints were caught off guard by the disguise and paid the price.
GOAL
Theo Walcott (15’) | 1 – 0

Austin heads wide
Set-pieces remain the most likely route to goal at both ends, as Ward-Prowse whips one in from deep that Austin meets in the middle of the box, but his header drops wide of Pickford's right-hand post.
Romeu blocks Gueye's volley
Sigurdsson delivers another set-piece, this time a deep corner met on the volley by the onrushing Gueye, but Romeu is in the right place to make the block.
Keane denied by McCarthy
First clear sight of goal is for Everton, as Sigurdsson's delivery is met by the head of Keane, but it's straight at McCarthy, who makes the save.
Saints force the first corner
Austin's shot takes a big deflection, loops into the air and goes behind for a corner, but Ward-Prowse's delivery is cleared to safety.
We're under way!
Nathan Redmond gets the action off and running. Come on, Saints!

Two changes for Saints at Goodison
Mark Hughes makes a pair of alterations to his side who were held to a goalless draw by Burnley on the opening day, introducing more attacking intent with Danny Ings starting alongside Charlie Austin up front. James Ward-Prowse also comes in, to play on the right side of a four-man midfield, while Stuart Armstrong drops to the bench and Jannik Vestergaard is unfortunately sidelined by illness.
