Button mistake...
Gallagher's work rate wins the ball from Button, who dwelled on it in his own area. Squares to Austin, having just entered the pitch, but the striker's effort is turned off the line. Couldn't have come closer!
Livening up!
Chances at both ends. Gallagher goes close for Saints, before Brighton break and threaten Gunn's goal. Still no breakthrough, as we prepare to welcome Charlie Austin and Nathan Redmond.
Break in play...
Bednarek is down receiving treatment. Looks to be okay as he re-enters the pitch.
First chance for Gallagher
The substitute pulls off the back of his defender and latches onto an inviting whipped delivery from Davis. Gallagher dives to put his head on the pass, but is under pressure and turns the ball a yard wide.
Suttner tests Gunn
The Saints stopper stands up to the challenge, after a period of pressure for the hosts. Resulting corner is cleared.
Button punches...
Ward-Prowse delivers from the left, after Matt Targett was pulled down. The Seagulls stopper punches clear, as Saints continue to ask questions of Brighton's resilience.
Prowsey free-kick...
Again, Button saves. Ward-Prowse hits a dead ball from 20-yards, which the Brighton stopper pushes to safety. Saints testing, but no breakthrough!
Gunn at full stretch
The Saints keeper does superbly to deny Gyokeres, whose header was destined for the far corner before Gunn's smart intervention.
More pressure
Gabbiadini again calls Button into action, who makes the save low to his left. Before Brighton break, and Victor Gyokeres forces a fine save from Gunn!
Saints threaten
Davis chases down a lose pass, and nips in ahead of Da Silva. He finds Elyounoussi, whose shot is again caught by Button.
Elyounoussi looped shot
Stephens finds the forward, who loops an effort towards goal which Button catches. Saints again looking to play forward, but are short of luck in the final third.
Saints get us under way...
We're up and running for the second half, Elyounoussi gets Saints on the front foot. Come on, lads! 👊

All square the break! Saints have dominated chances created, but are yet to break the deadlock...
Armstrong effort
The midfielder whips a curled effort towards goal from inside the area, which had Button beaten, but ends up the wrong side of the far post.

We're into the final five minutes of the half here at the AMEX. Saints have tested Button in the Brighton upright, but as yet, no breakthrough.
Forward thinking...
Saints again with some neat link up play around Brighton's technical area. But not too much by way of goalmouth action.
Gabbi forces another save
Some lovely interplay between Saints' attacking line yields another chance for the striker, who hit a lot shot to Button's left. The Brighton keeper parried to safety.

The first caution of the night goes to Brighton's all action midfielder.

Saints break with Ward-Prowse, who found Armstrong and in turn Targett down the left. The fullback drove a cross towards Gabbiadini, whose shot was saved.

Elyounoussi's earlier chance. The wideman looks lively down the right side of Saints' attacking quartet.
Armstrong shoots wide
The midfielder did well to pinch the ball high up the pitch, before driving forward and unleashing a low shot. The ball ended up marginally wide of the post.

The wideman again hits a shot from distance. Gunn looked to have it covered as it sailed over the crossbar.

More shots fired!
This time Victor Gyokeres tries his luck from range. Found by Bissouma, the fullback took the shot on early, which missed the target, but was hit with plenty of pace.
Bissouma goes close
The midfielder burst forward just over the halfway line, before evading two challenges and letting rip from distance. The effort flew over Saints' crossbar, but it'll serve as a warning shot for the visitors!

Saints carve out the first clear cut chance. Elyounoussi had his shot saved, before Yoshida turned the rebound goalward, but again the effort was blocked.
Gunn saves comfortably...
A first touch of the ball for Saints' debutant goalkeeper Gunn, who saves comfortably from Markus Suttner, who had travelled well down the left.
Saints probing...
Romeu advances well with the ball, picked out by Ward-Prowse. He spots the run of Elyounoussi, who had snuck in behind the Brighton backline but Button read the danger well.

Manolo Gabbiadini is preferred up top, with Mo Elyounoussi the only player to retain his place from Saturday. Young forward Sam Gallagher is named on the bench.
