ings and redmond combine, as the winger skips past his man and into shooting range, but he can't wrap his foot around the ball and it's wide of the near post. more promising signs for the visitors.
murray heads over
a rare scare for saints, as knockaert jinks his way into a crossing position. his delivery is just behind murray, who can't keep his header down as a result.

saints win the ball in midfield and counter-attack with purpose. ings feeds redmond, who finds højbjerg charging into the box. the skipper picks out armstrong, who takes a good touch, but as he pulls the trigger there's another blue and white shirt in the way with another important block.
ings fires over
he's just had his first sight of goal, and now ings gets another glimpse as he lets fly from distance, but this one sails harmlessly over.

better from saints, as armstrong gets himself into the box and cleverly picks out ings, whose first-time shot looks destined for the bottom corner only for bernardo to throw himself in the way.

valery is caught in possession and brighton attempt to make the youngster pay, but bissouma drags his shot wide from 25 yards as space opens up.

the combative midfielder typically slides in to pick the pocket of murray, but causes himself some pain in the process. he's back on his feet now 💪

ings looks to free himself from the close attentions of montoya as a cross comes in from the right. the striker goes down claiming a push, but the referee is unmoved.

bissouma bursts into the saints box, but romeu slides in to get a vital touch as bissouma looks for jahanbakhsh with a low ball across goal.
ryan denies redmond
it's been a slow burner, but saints suddenly spring into life as redmond finds a yard of space to rifle a shot goalwards from a tight angle. goalkeeper ryan is in the right place to beat it away.
