Alek Gross joined Southampton in June 2013 as the Lead Academy Strength and Conditioning Coach and was promoted to Head of Sports Science within the FDSC at Staplewood Campus in January 2014.

He went on to combine his role with that of first team fitness coach in the summer of 2016.

Prior to moving south, he completed six years at the all-conquering Rugby League side Leeds Rhinos winning the title in three consecutive seasons between 2007 and 2009.

Having previously taught sports science at Leeds Metropolitan University, Gross went back into lecturing strength and conditioning at University of West England for 18 months before joining Saints.

Gross is responsible for managing the sports science department schedules and the delivery of services to the whole club from first team down into the academy.

He became more involved with the first-team at Southampton in 2016 following the appointment of Claude Puel as manager, becoming First Team Strength & Conditioning Coach, as well as Head of Sports Science.
